Twenty cousins, three generations, one long table by the pool. Here's how big groups book Dorado directly, which properties hold everyone, and how to plan a week that keeps the whole crew happy.
There's a moment on every good group trip when the noise drops. Dinner's over, somebody's playing music low by the pool, the kids have finally fallen asleep in a pile on the couch, and the adults are sitting with their feet up while the Atlantic does its slow breathing just past the palms. That's the moment you were planning for when you started the group chat six months ago. It's also the moment that's very hard to get in a hotel, where your group is scattered across four floors and the bar closes at eleven.
Puerto Rico is a wonderful island for groups. It's an easy flight from most of the East Coast, US citizens don't need a passport, and there's enough on the island to keep every age happy, from rainforest hikes and surf breaks to long lunches and salsa after dark. The hard part is finding one place where everyone can sleep, eat and gather without splitting up. That's where Dorado comes in.
Aqua Dorado has two that take a whole group under one booking. Ville Moderna is a villa collection that sleeps up to 51 guests across 16 bedrooms, and Villas Del Mar is a beachfront complex that sleeps up to 48 across 14 bedrooms. Smaller groups can book part of either, or a whole Casas house.
Here are the group options at a glance:
Aqua Dorado has been hosting groups in Dorado for nine years, with a 4.82 rating across more than 950 reviews on our travel listing sites.
Because everyone gets their own door and the group still gets a center. Families can keep their own sleep schedules and kitchens, while the pool, the yard and the long dinner table bring everyone back together. You also skip the hotel restaurant bill for twenty, which on a week-long trip is a serious number.
The difference shows up on the second morning. In a hotel, getting twenty people to breakfast is a negotiation by text message. In a villa collection, the early risers make coffee, the kids are in the pool by eight, and the late sleepers wander out whenever they're ready. Nobody's waiting on anyone, and nobody's left out either.
The kitchen matters more than people expect. Cooking together, or bringing in a private chef for one big night, turns meals into the best part of the trip instead of the most expensive. Puerto Rican food is made for crowds: a big caldero of arroz con gandules, roast pork, tostones by the dozen. A group with a full kitchen eats like a Puerto Rican family, and that's a very good way to eat.
All sorts. Family reunions and multigenerational holidays are the most common, especially around Thanksgiving, Christmas and the summer. We also host milestone birthdays, friends' trips, wedding parties staying near the celebration, and teams on a working retreat. Groups of Puerto Ricans living on the mainland coming home for the holidays book with us often too.
Each group wants something slightly different, so here's how they usually match up:
Set one shared plan per day and leave the rest free. A beach morning, one group outing every couple of days, and a big dinner together most nights is the rhythm that works. Split into smaller crews for the activities that only some people want, then meet back at the pool.
Old San Juan is the easy group outing, an afternoon on the blue cobblestones and the ramparts of El Morro, with lunch somewhere that can seat everyone. El Yunque rainforest is the adventure day for the active crew, with waterfalls and wet trails on the east side of the island. A bioluminescent bay paddle after dark is the night everyone will talk about, and tours take groups if you book early.
Some will want golf at one of the three courses in Dorado. Some will want a surf lesson when Kikita is working. Some will want to do absolutely nothing but read by the pool, and that's a perfectly valid plan. A villa collection makes it easy for everyone to choose their own day and still come home to the same table.
Make one night the event. Hire a private chef, set a long table outside, string up some lights, and let the evening run. We recommend chefs who cook for our guests, and you book them directly. It's the night that ends up in every photo album.
As early as possible, especially for holidays. Whole-property bookings for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year and spring break go first, because there are only so many places on the island that can hold forty people together. Stays can be booked up to 180 days in advance, and long stays past 35 nights can get better rates if you contact us.
It's worth locking the property before anything else. Flights and rental cars can be sorted after, but the right house for a big group is the hard part. And with our cancellation policy, you get a full refund if plans change 15 days or more before check-in, which makes it a lot easier to commit early on behalf of everyone.
Count your guests and bedrooms, choose the property that holds everyone, and book directly on aquadorado.com.
