The questions guests ask us most before they arrive.
No. Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, so a flight from the mainland is a domestic flight and U.S. citizens don't need a passport. Travellers 18 and older do need an ID the TSA accepts to board: a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or state ID, or another accepted document such as a U.S. passport. Visitors from other countries follow the same entry rules as for the rest of the United States.
The U.S. dollar. Electricity is 120 volts with the same plugs as the mainland United States, so devices from there need no adapter. U.S. mobile carriers operate here, so most of those phones work the way they do at home. Check your plan to be sure.
For most trips, yes. Dorado's beaches, restaurants and golf courses are spread out, and day trips to Old San Juan, El Yunque or Fajardo are all by road. If you plan to stay close to the beach and take one or two rides, you can manage without one.
Yes. Uber operates in Dorado and at the San Juan airport. Uber itself notes that pickups in Dorado can take longer than in a big city, so for an early flight or a dinner reservation, schedule the ride in advance in the app.
Spanish is the everyday language in Puerto Rico. English is widely used too, especially at hotels, restaurants and with tour operators, so a visitor who only speaks English gets by fine.
Start with mofongo (fried green plantain mashed with garlic), tostones, arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas) and lechón asado, pork roasted slowly over coals. In Dorado, Panela serves Puerto Rican cooking and Villa Dorada De Alberto serves seafood across from the beach.
From the Aqua Dorado properties, Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) is about 24 miles, usually 35 to 45 minutes by car. Old San Juan is about 30 to 40 minutes. El Yunque National Forest is about 45 miles east, roughly an hour and a quarter. Allow extra time at rush hour.
Yes. WiFi, power generator and water cistern on every property. AQUA Ville Moderna and the AQUA Casas are within walking distance of Piloto 151 Dorado, a 7,000-square-foot coworking space near Sardinera Beach.
